ABC Classics is proud to announce the Australian premiere recording of Polaris – Voyage for Orchestra by cutting-edge British composer Thomas Adès. Recorded live in concert earlier this month in the newly-refurbished Hamer Hall by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Markus Stenz, this major work from one of the top composers of our time is now available online via iTunes and other digital media platforms.
The Australian recording is only the second time this critically acclaimed work has been recorded anywhere in the world. The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, in partnership with ABC Classics, has a strong tradition of presenting landmark performances on CD through its MSO Live series, says the Orchestra’s Director of Artistic Planning, Huw Humphreys. ‘It’s thrilling that we can now make valuable recordings such as this available to a global audience so quickly.’
‘ABC Classics has been at the forefront of promoting Australian performances to international audiences for 25 years,’ says Head of ABC Music, Robert Patterson. ‘The digital age has provided our label with even greater scope to showcase Australian music-making to a world audience with an immediacy and reach that is unprecedented in our label’s long and proud history.’
Polaris: Voyage for Orchestra is now available to download through iTunes and a variety of other digital download destinations as well as streaming on Rdio, Spotify, Deezer and more.
