It’s almost time for Aussie music’s night of nights – the 2021 ARIA awards! We here at ABC Music are no stranger to a sharp trophy or two (*cough* 117 ARIAs and counting *cough*) and we are beyond proud to have 12 amazing albums up for awards come November 24.

But before the big event, we thought you should get to know our nominees a little better

The Wiggles - Lullabies With Love

Three (3!) Wiggly bubs came into the world in 2020 so it just makes sense the The Wiggles’ ‘Lullabies With Love’ caught voters eyes (bonus points for introducing the world to Baby Dorothy).

Amber Lawrence – ‘The Kid's Gone Country 2: Fun For All The Family’

When she’s not making stunning country music for grown ups, Amber Lawrence is busy at work making boot-scooting tunes for littlies! Just try and keep these earworms out of your head.

Diver City – ‘Dance Silly’

The absolute powerhouse duo of KLP and Matt OKine have picked up their second Best Children’s album nom in two years! It’s no wonder with a record as joyous as this one, featuring a who’s who of Aussie muso parents like Andy Bull, Sam Cromack, Katie Noonan and so many more.

Various Artists - 'The Moon, The Mouse & The Frog: Lullabies from Northern Australia'

This little release is very special to us. Featuring eight lullabies from the top end of Australia all sung in traditional languages, listening to this album is a beautiful and enriching experience for adults and kids.

Grigoryan Brothers – ‘This is Us: A Musical Reflection of Australia’

A true marriage of the physical and aural, this collection from brothers Slava and Leonard were inspired by significant items in the collection of the National Museum of Australia making it a musical exploration of Australia’s history, culture and identity.

Genevieve Lacey and Marshall McGuire – ‘Bower’

On this release, the incomparable Genevieve Lacey – performer, composer and creator of poetic, expansive worlds – joins with internationally acclaimed Australian harpist Marshall McGuire to explore the unique power of music to offer comfort and renewal.

Nat Bartsch – ‘Hope’

Inspired first by the Black Summer bushfires and then the following COVID pandemic, Australian pianist Nat Bartsch muses on hopefulness, hopelessness and all the emotions in-between.

Emily Sun | Andrea Lam – ‘Nocturnes’

A masterful debut album from up-and-comer Emily Sun, the young violinist takes listeners on a journey of passionate, intense beauty from the great French masters.

Petra Haden and the Nick Haywood Quintet – ‘Songs from my Father’

Petra Haden, daughter of iconic US double bassist Charlie Haden, takes inspiration from her father on this electric album which recorded live during the 2019 Melbourne International Jazz Festival. A celebration of life and the memories beyond it, it’s a truly jubilant listen.

Felicity Urquhart & Josh Cunningham – ‘The Song Club’

A collaboration from a year that many would rather give back, The Song Club came about from Felicity and Josh joining the same songwriting collective. From there a partnership blossomed into an uplifting, cheeky album that proves there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.

Bob Weatherall & Halfway, with William Barton – ‘Restless Dream’

‘Restless Dream’, an almost impossibly powerful collaboration between Brisbane band Halfway and Indigenous elder Uncle Bob Weatherall, tells the heartwrenching story of Uncle Bob travelling the world trying to recover stolen ancestral remains to return them to their rightful resting place.

Antony Partos – ‘Rams’ (Original Motion Picture Score)

Aussie film composing stalwart Antony Partos truly distilled the quirky mood of this homegrown comedy with tongue-in-cheek tracks such as ‘Cop That You Sneaky Bastard’.
