Acclaimed local singer-songwriter Drew McAlister reveals plans to release his debut solo album, ‘BLACK SKY’ on23 October through ABC Music / Universal.
The forthcoming release launches today with thunderous lead single and title track ‘Black Sky’. Produced by Drew together with Ben Robertson, ‘Black Sky’ is a nod to those Australians who inhabit rural areas and endure the hardships that often accompany living on the land.
“It seems that at any given time in Australia’s history drought has had its claws firmly embedded within our Outback culture”, said Drew. “Both my Mum and Dad come from properties near the Weemelah [Ardblair] and Garah [Wattombri] regions in rural Australia, and the effect of drought is in our family history. I’m not on a farm, but I can see that the devastation drought causes is not going away any time soon”.
Drew inked a solo record deal with ABC Music earlier this year. Natalie Waller, GM ABC Music & Events, said “ABC Music has had a long-standing relationship with Drew; first through his work with the successful duo, McAlister Kemp, and now we get to continue this exciting journey with him through his solo career.”
Drew McAlister is one half of chart-topping Country duo McAlister Kemp, has toured in the United States with country superstars Big & Rich, and is a celebrated songwriter in his own right; In 2014 he picked up 2 x Golden Guitar Awards for his work co-writing the track ‘Lady Of The Land’ with Luke O’Shea.
“He’s raising up a young family and every morning she makes him coffee, been waiting on the day when she’s had enough but it never comes …”
