ONE TO WATCH! CAITLYN SHADBOLT TO RELEASE NEW ALBUM ‘SONGS ON MY SLEEVE’ OUT MAY 26th
She is one of Australia’s most loved musical stars and for more than 20 years her appearances in musical theatre and in the annual Carols by Candlelight TV broadcasts have brought her into millions of Australian households.
But incredibly, in all that time since her famous debut as a teenager in Les Miserables back in 1989, Silvie Paladino has never recorded a solo album.
Now, in response to audience demand, Silvie has teamed up with master-producer John Foreman to create the appropriately-titled On My Own, an album that is both a labour of love and an uplifting celebration of the joy of song.
‘The recording experience has been one of joy and excitement, and I believe it’s echoed throughout the recording,’ says Silvie of the project which features the music that she and her devoted fans love most.
‘I feel so lucky to have been part of the music industry for so long and I am extremely blessed to have had the opportunity to record this album.’
Classic tunes like Burt Bacharach’s Anyone Who Had a Heart, and Songbird, made famous by Fleetwood Mac, plus Lionel Richie’s Truly sit alongside ‘On My Own’ from the musical that established her career and At a Time Like This – Silvie’s self-composed anthem that has struck a chord in the wake of recent natural disasters.
Having been nominated for a Green Room Award for her one-woman show Silvie Paladino Sings Streisand, Silvie says ‘I had to have a Streisand song somewhere on the album!’ She chose Happy Days Are Here Again/Get Happy and in a typically imaginative choice invited the legendary Doug Parkinson to join her in what is a truly special duet, their vastly different voice types somehow blending perfectly together.
With an all-star session band and the lush sounds of the Melbourne Youth Orchestra behind her, Silvie says that ‘Everyone involved has shown such generosity that I am forever humbled.’
The soaring voice, the emotional delivery, and above all the sheer integrity make Silvie Paladino’s On My Own a standout recording for 2011, and an inspiring musical journey that well and truly has been worth the wait.
On mandolin, ukulele, accordion and guitar, the Exes are a powerhouse of charm and songwriting prowess. Fair warning: this foursome is the most badass female folk band around.
Lee Kernaghan releases a very special 25th Anniversary album.
