5 times The Wiggles nailed cover songs

They might have some very iconic originals under their belt but The Wiggles also have a knack for covers. With the fab four for under fours trying their hand at viral sea shanty ‘Wellerman’ we thought we’d take a look back at the five times our Wiggly mates turned beloved tunes into something even better.

1. 'Elephant' by Tame Impala

We could not talk about Wiggles covers without mentioning the triple j Like A Version that broke the internet. After having their arms twisted by Breakfast presenters Bryce and Ebony, The Wiggles came into the triple j studios to blow us away with this Tame Impala cover. Choosing to mash up ‘Elephant’ with ‘Fruit Salad’ is just the kind of ingenuity that we’ve come to expect from The Wiggles.

1. 'Wellerman' by Nathan Evans

The world went crazy for sea shanties in 2020 thanks to Scottish artist Nathan Evans uploading his traditional covers to TikTok. Specifically, the world went crazy for ‘Wellerman’ the 1860s New Zealand folk song that also caught the ears of The Wiggles. The crew swapped out scurvy for skivvies and the rest, as they say, is history!

3. 'Your Song' by Elton John

To celebrate Elton John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour hitting Australia early last year, The Wiggles donned their finest and most brightly coloured sunglasses to pay tribute to the musical legend. Joined by heavenly ballet dancers, this is a cover that is guaranteed to bring a tear to your eye (and not just because the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour was postponed shortly after due to COVID-19...)

4. 'Baby Shark' by Pinkfong

Pinkfong’s Baby Shark was undeniably a cultural reset for the world of children’s much, currently sitting at over 7.6 BILLION views on YouTube. Enter The Wiggles with their own twist on this earworm of a tune. We apologise in advance for getting it stuck in your head

5. 'Waltzing Matilda' by Banjo Paterson

Name something more Aussie than The Wiggles covering the Banjo Paterson classic ‘Waltzing Matilda’? If you said The Wiggles coving ‘Waltzing Matilda’ with local country star Troy Casser-Daly then you are 100% correct! Throw in an Akubra and you’ve got a Wiggles cover that will make you proud to be Australian.

Bonus! 'She's A Rainbow' by The Rolling Stones

Okay, this wasn’t an ~official~ cover but The Wiggles covered The Rolling Stones’ ‘She’s A Rainbow’ might just be the most beautiful thing we’ve ever heard, and you need to hear it too. You are welcome.
