Originally developed by Dr. Catherine Crock AM to reduce stress and anxiety felt by both patients and their families in hospitals, the Hush music collection is now played in hospitals, homes and shared spaces across the globe. The album is inspired by stories of young children – both sick and well. From these conversations grew a collection of music that conveys the children’s feelings, hopes and dreams in a way that resonates equally with adult listeners. These ARIA-award winning musicians are joined by the Goldner String Quartet, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s principle oboist Diana Doberty and cor anglais Alexandre Oguey, and a range of other distinguished performers.Launch ConcertsSydney, City Recital HallTuesday 15 November, 7pmMelbourne Recital CentreThursday 24 November, 7pmMore details at www.hush.org.au

As so often the case, a chance meeting, a random jam, results in something far more than just the forging of a new friendship.  So it happened for Nick Milwright and Damian Cazaly, who after a fortuitous encounter in 2005, came to form Melbourne indie/dance outfit Blackchords. Their resulting brand of darkly majestic pop has grown over the past eight years, as has their audience and acclaim, the band releasing their eponymous debut in 2009, touring Europe, garnering award nominations both here and abroad.  It’s music that creeps and cavorts, it drags you in and flings you out, it’s something different, something to think about indeed. Their second album A Thin Line follows on from the group’s debut but it’s more ambient, more electronic, yet pulsing with energy. Recorded in the Yarra Valley and with help from renowned producer David Odlum (The Frames, Gemma Hayes, Josh Ritter, Luka Bloom) Blackchords crafted their strongest musical statement to date.  Track listing1. A Very Brandenburg Christmas contains everything we’ve come to expect from five-time ARIA Award winning Australian Brandenburg Orchestra’s annual Christmas live albums – and much more. There are well-loved carols with the Brandenburg Choir, baroque masterpieces brought to new life, choral and operatic favourites, and – for the first time – the magical sound of the bandura, played here by Ukranian Larissa Kovalchuk. The live performance was a highlight of the Brandenburg’s 25th anniversary year, and this album will be treasured for Christmases to come.“During our wonderful 25th anniversary year,” says the Brandenburg’s inspirational Artistic Director Paul Dyer, “we celebrated with guest artists from all corners of the world. It was a real testament to music’s power to communicate beyond political, social and cultural divides. It was a geographical, spiritual and cultural year; from the 16th to the 21st century, from Christianity to Islam, Israel and Europe, Ukraine to Russia and back to Australia.“I am excited to introduce the beautiful Ukrainian bandura, played by Larissa Kovalchuk. This wonderful instrument has been newly discovered by the rest of the world as Ukraine revives its folk traditions. Adding Larissa’s playing – and singing – brought something quite magical to concerts.“The Brandenburg stage is a place of beautiful music, and incredible musicianship. Tom Jordan first picked up a guitar when he was 3 years old. As with most children of his age at the time he had a fascination with the Wiggles, which brought out his natural interest and ability for music and performance. By the time Tom was 8 he was accomplished in the basics of guitar and started having some lessons when he received an electric guitar for his ninth birthday. Tom is now only 14 years old but captivates audiences wherever he plays. His youthful exuberance, stage presence and combined singing, guitar playing, exciting original compositions and feel for music make him an exceptional talent well beyond his years.
