New Day is a stunning album of the unique Australian soundscape. Originally commissioned by ABC Classic FM to be broadcast during its morning program, Breakfast, the music now stands on its own as a celebration of the diverse sounds found in Australian nature.

Composer Peter Mummé travelled around the country, recording the natural sounds of wildlife, water and vegetation at daybreak, and incorporated them into his work. The result is a striking celebration of music in nature.

These 15 pieces represent Tropical North Queensland, the Northern Territory, coastal New South Wales and the Victorian Highlands, filled with the sounds of gang gang cockatoos, wattle birds, corellas, jumping fish, frogs, crickets and a thunderstorm.

ABC Classic FM commissioned ambient music composer Peter Mummé to write a series of soundscapes for Guy Noble's Breakfast program. Heard twice a day (6:05 and 8:05 each weekday morning), this segment was conceived to 'show off' Australia to our Olympic visitors. Without leaving their radio, they could encounter the diverse and beautiful landscapes of our great country.
