Mozart Symphonies 39-41

Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra

Buy

Toward the end of his life Mozart composed a miracle even by his own lofty standards – three immortal symphonies that emerged within the period of just a few weeks in the summer of 1788. Virtually unknown and probably unperformed during Mozart’s lifetime, the Symphonies Nos 39-41 remain at the pinnacle of orchestral music, filled with equal measures of joie-de-vivre and profound insight. The G minor Symphony No 40 with its familiar, turbulent opening theme often tops polls as Mozart’s most popular orchestral work, while the sheer emotional scale of the ’Jupiter’ Symphony No 41 more than lives up to its imposing nickname. The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra has always specialised in the performance of Mozart’s music, and under conductor Sebastian Lang-Lessing these Mozart masterpieces continue to astonish with their invention and beauty.
